Straight across the heart of our fair isle! The brilliant thing about this route is that you spend most of your journey on slightly smaller roads that cut through verdent countryside, giving you loads of brilliant farms to discover in particular.
The Orchard Tea Gardens (4 minutes from the M11 at Junction 11 and 12, near Cambridge)
Best on a dry day, The Tea Orchard is a truly hidden gem. Allow the children to free-range it, kick back and relax, or cosy up in the wet-weather-option Pavilion. Scones are made every day on the premises and are nothing short of sublime.
The Manor Farm Shop (Moments from the meeting point of M1, M6 and A14)
A traditional farm shop - you don't find it fresher than this. With an award-winning cream tea and gold award fruit cake, time our Pitstop just right and you certainly won't be regretting it.
Trentham Estate and Garden Centre (5 minutes from the M6 at Junction 15)
There's no end to what's on offer at the Trentham Estate but if you can't stretch to a few hours, or even a full day, out of your journey then try the Trentham Garden Centre, with a choice of 3 great eateries and good shopping (including toys!) So convenient too, a great find.
Harwarden Estate Farm Shop (A few minutes from the A35 between Junctions 35 and 36, just into North Wales)
If wooden playforts had existed like this in my time, I'd have been in heaven. Children's play area, nature trails, chickens & pigs, a food hall and THE BEST sausage rolls in Wales (we think!), don't miss out.
Conwy Falls Cafe (Right on the A5, if you're coming the Shrewsbury way!)
Proper 'from scratch' cooking with the most local ingredients, these Pitstop hosts are not only experts in food and drink, but bikes too! A great opportunity for a little walk to blow the cobwebs, in really beautiful surroundings.
